Live like an A-lister in Edinburgh

Here at Lateral City, we enjoy the more luxurious things in life. We think anyone staying with us should receive the superstar treatment, regardless of who they are. With your luxury accommodation booked, why not continue the 5-star experience? Follow in the steps of David Beckham, Kate Winslet et al, with our top tips to living like a celeb when visiting the Scottish Capital.

Dinner at The Kitchin in Leith.

Elizabeth Olsen was recently spotted dining here with friends whilst she was in the city filming scenes for the upcoming Marvel Infinity War epic, and David Beckham popped in to see head chef Tom Kitchin and his talented staff, when filming for his whisky brand Haig Club. Celebrity fans aside, head chef Tom Kitchin is renowned as one of the most innovative and creative chefs in the country, and his restaurant is sure to not disappoint any budding foodie. Fancy experiencing more from Tom Kitchin? Discover his other restaurants and official Lateral City partners, the Scran & Scallie and Castle Terrace Restaurant

Cocktails at Tigerlily on George Street.

Preened to perfection, the crowd at Tigerlily enjoy getting glamorous for their evenings out. Somewhat of an Edinburgh institution, Tigerlily has been attracting the city’s most shimmering characters for years. This boutique bar and restaurant is beautifully decked out in sumptuous jewel tones, glittering mirror-ball walls and bouji design details – the perfect environment for any Hollywood leading man or sparkly starlet. A number of the A-list have been spotted sipping cocktails here over the years, but be warned, expect the place to be packed on the weekends!

Visit Edinburgh during the Festival!

Undoubtedly the best time to visit the city is during the month of August. Not only does the population swell to nearly double, the atmosphere on the street is electrifying! The festival and fringe also provide the perfect opportunity to do a bit of star spotting, as the comics, thespians, and other various famous hangers-on, descend onto the streets and mix among the mere mortals to soak up the buzz. Regular Edinburgh festival and fringe attendees include Jimmy Carr (who loves to check out the latest upcoming comedians), John Bishop, Alan Davies, and Paul Merton amongst others. Graham Norton has already been spotted out and about this year!

Dine at Tower Restaurant.

As Scotland’s ‘first rooftop restaurant’, perched atop the amazing National Museum of Scotland, the Tower Restaurant is an incredibly memorable setting for dinner in the city. Offering exquisite views across the city’s Old Town, it is no wonder the place attracts the rich and famous. Previous guests to have dined at The Tower include Kate Moss, Ricky Gervais, Kate Winslet and the gorgeous Joanna Lumley. After a day of exploring the museum, head up the stairs and enjoy great food amongst great company, with great views! I mean, if Joanna Lumley said the restaurant was ‘fab’, they must be doing something right!

Do a spot of shopping at Jenners Department Store.

A classic must-do for any shopping fan coming to Edinburgh, Jenners Department Store is full of famous brand names, and it’s the perfect place to satisfy all your designer purchase cravings. The building itself is beautiful too, so even for those who don’t appreciate the healing qualities of retail therapy, it’s worth taking a look. Walk past the store this month and you might spot Scottish actor and Outlander star Sam Heughan gracing the windows and hoardings. He is headlining the new Barbour tartan campaign and looks suitably smoldering kitted out in the brand’s distinctive outdoor-chic apparel.

Food with a conscience at Home Restaurant and Social Bite.

If you are looking to do your good deed for the day, are feeling benevolent, or find yourself a budding philanthropist, stop by Social Bite on Rose Street or Home Restaurant on Queensferry Road. Both businesses were founded on the simple idea of giving back to the local homeless community. They both serve up great food whilst allowing customers to buy meals for those in need. Both Leonardo DiCaprio and George Clooney have visited to praise the good work done and sample some of the delicious fare on offer. FYI, want to eat like an A-lister? Leo ordered the truffle macaroni and cheese during his visit to Home.

Work out at the Old Town Chambers Gym.

We understand that it’s important to look and feel your best, and even when on vacation, that’s no different! Our fully equipped gym at the Old Town Chambers is a great place to let off a little steam whilst working on your fitness. If you are in need of a little guidance, guests can book a session with in-house personal trainer Amy MacGregor, who is more than happy to put you through your paces! She was recently joined by ex-Scotland International rugby players Thom and Max Evans, who used the facilities in the Old Town Chambers gym whilst visiting the capital.

Coming Soon

Opening later in 2018, The Edinburgh Grand is enriched by an illustrious heritage as it takes up residence in the famous Royal Bank of Scotland landmark on St Andrew Square. Authentic features will be given a serious makeover and seamlessly incorporated into the new design, enhancing unbelievably beautiful spaces with unique historical merit. Not only will this development provide unrivaled luxury accommodation at the heart of the city, but it will also be a social hub, housing a sleek new bar, coffeehouse and restaurant too. St Andrew Square will also be welcoming the iconic Ivy Bistro later on in 2017, which will join other northern outposts of classic London establishments; Dishoom and The Refinery. The regeneration of St Andrew Square means it is quickly becoming the place to be seen.
