The Most Romantic Things to Do in Edinburgh

Known for its constant festival-throwing, there is always something going on in Edinburgh. A trip to the capital however, doesn’t need to be full throttle. A romantic city break to Edinburgh can offer you a chance to unwind and enjoy time with the one you love the most. Surround yourself in the other-worldly architecture, soak in the magical atmosphere, and maybe take in a few of the sights; here are a few of the most romantic things to do in Edinburgh.

Boozy lunch at Chop House @ The Arches

This renowned Edinburgh institution recently expanded from it’s original Leith restaurant to open a new premises in The Arches development near the Royal Mile. The move to the city centre hasn’t resulted in the restaurant losing it’s stylish, industrial-chic feeling, nor has its mouth-watering menu suffered. Sample some of the sizzling delights from the grill and work your way through the wine list with your beloved, in this elegant and comfortable space.

Romantic stroll up Calton Hill

Raphaƫl Chekroun
Day-time or at dusk, the 360 degree panoramas over the city from Calton Hill are always incredible. There will be plenty of Instagram opportunities if you are so inclined, but why not grab a bottle of champers and find a bench to enjoy the views from? The walk isn’t too strenuous but the pay-off is fantastic and there really isn’t any better a place to take in views of Edinburgh so close to the city centre. Warm up afterwards in one of the cosy coffee shops or welcoming pubs nearby.

Hidden away off the bustling high street, down a pretty timeworn alleyway, Monteith’s is a boutique cocktail bar and restaurant that perfectly embodies the feeling and atmosphere of this romantic city. Find a quiet cosy corner, settle back in your leather armchair or tartan bench, and relish the interesting tastes and flavours of the innovative cocktail menu. This makes for a brilliant and cosy date night.

Refuel and unwind at the Devil’s Advocate

Just a couple of steps from Old Town Chambers is The Devil’s Advocate, a Victorian pump house turned buzzing city bar. Tucked away up Advocate’s close, old Edinburgh meets new at this stylish bar. Enjoy boutique pub food that combines contemporary ingredients with traditional Scottish character, and marvel at the 200 strong whisky shelf. Share a night-cap dram before winding your way back to your Old Town Chambers apartment.

A short bus ride out of town is Blackford Hill, the most amazing spot to do a little romantic star-gazing. Impress your other half with your extensive knowledge of the skies whilst enjoying a dramatic vista across the city. Edinburgh will literally light up in front of you! The best bit? It’s only a hop, skip and a jump away from our Merchiston Residence in tranquil Bruntsfield, one of the leafiest and welcoming suburbs in the city - the ideal area for a romantic retreat!

Have a laugh at The Stand Comedy Club

Open seven nights a week and just five minutes from Princes Street, The Stand comedy club is the perfect place to let off a little steam and relax. Although it might not be the most obvious choice, an evening full of belly laughs is a brilliant alternative date night. What better way to spend time with your favourite person than watching hilarious comics in the city world famous for it’s comedy
